Japanese invasion of Philippines began only hours after the Pearl Harbor raid. American defenders were unprepared and many of their aircraft were destroyed on the ground. One unit which evaded the initial destruction was the 6th Philippine Pursuit Squadron equipped with obsolete Boeing P-26s, known as 'Peashooters'. Led by Captain Jesus Villamor, this unit achieved almost impossible... they were able to shoot down Japanese airplanes.
