In this video, we hear three time Grammy winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. speak from the heart about making music with his young band, Generation Y. And we also hear the band, playing a fantastic shuffle in the style of Art Blakey's Moanin'.
Owens describes being part of a tradition of mentorship, with the great Art Blakey guiding many young players such as Mulgrew Miller, and in turn Miller guided and mentored Owens. Here, Owens continues the chain by featuring a group of talented younger players on the Cellar Music album, "A New Beat".
