UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association 2026 Annual Event Plenary Panel: ‘The Persistence of Infrastructure’

Each year the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association organises an Annual Event to bring together digital humanities researchers and practitioners from across Ireland and the UK. The 2026 Annual Event was hosted by the University of Southampton and focused on the theme of ‘Sustainability’.
As part of this event, the Association hosted a plenary roundtable entitled ‘The Persistence of Infrastructure’. We were joined by professionals from the British Library, DARIAH Ireland, Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru / The National Library of Wales, the University of Glasgow and the Software Sustainability Institute, who considered what sustainability means to them in their digital work.
The 2026 Annual Event was generously supported by the School of Advanced Study and The Social History Archive, and the plenary panel by the John Coffin Memorial Trust. The UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association is hosted by the Digital Humanities Research Hub, School of Advanced Study, University of London.
