From early mornings at Chaney’s Dairy Barn to presenting research at the Southeast Value-Added Dairy Conference, University of Kentucky students Lillyah Snipes and Jillian Lujan spent nine weeks gaining hands-on experience through the Undergraduate Development and Internship Research Experience (U-DAIRE) program.

Both animal sciences majors and pre-veterinary students at the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Snipes and Lujan learned every step of the dairy cycle — from feeding calves and operating robotic milking systems to bottling milk and serving ice cream. Their summer internship provided practical skills, new appreciation for agriculture, and direction for their future careers.
