In this video I break down the latest reports on Southern Water’s push for a non-essential use ban, the Environment Agency’s drought declarations covering most of England and all of Wales, and the long-standing failure to build new reservoirs. While extreme heat and record-low rainfall are clearly factors, the absence of major new reservoir capacity since 1992, planning barriers, and delayed government projects show that chronic under-investment in water infrastructure is just as central to the crisis as climate change. We examine the evidence from the recent coverage and ask what needs to change to secure supplies for the future.
