A very nice high-end cassette tape recorder, a portable stereo unit, with Dolby B noise reduction.

This unit was acquired on eBay, and needed a lot of work. The belt needed replacing, then the motor was replaced, and the VU meters also had to be replaced. Also a few leaky electrolytics were replaced. The record button's internal switch mechanism was jamming and broke, and I had to superglue it back, thankfully, successfully. The replacement VU meters differ slightly, and one of the movement's springs konstant was different (it moved slower back to normal position) and was more sensitive, so also a 4.7k resistor was added in series with the meter adjustment trimmer for that meter to set it properly.

In this video, at the introductions, you may notice the audio is a little different. I had to do some "signal processing" noise reductions using Goldwave to the audio portions of those videos, because the lavalier mic I was using was extra weak (I think the button cell in the power pack for it is getting low), so the audio of the camera's video was very faint, and had lots of hiss. I amplified it, did a digital noise reduction, and then a "noise gate" to improve listenability a bit.

Later in the video I put direct recordings from the unit, where I synchronized a (badly done) video of me with the recorder. It starts out in sync but drifts out of sync as time marches on. Then I show stereo music recording quality, first with a "hit" I made, then an existing minimal wave song.

Enjoy this presentation.

Yeah, my mood and attitude tended to be negative in this video... Apologies for being a little cray.
