Abruptly (but finally) going from winter straight into spring, folks in the Twin Cities basked in the first warm sunny day of the year. However an interesting thing happened in the afternoon, temperatures quickly soared from the low 80s to near 90 and quite humid within a matter of a few hours.
I'm actually pretty disappointed with The National Weather Service tonight. They didn't put out any Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watches until after storms started to pop up on the radar (about 6:30pm). In the 7pm hour, two Tornado Warnings and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued all throughout the metro area.
Golf ball and baseball sized hail was reported in a number of areas... but no matter where you were in the Twin Cities tonight, it was eerily quiet as you looked over breathtaking cumulonimbus and mammatus clouds -- while seeing nothing but the color orange.
Amazing.
