A video how I tuned a 12" Tama tom batter head to a 2B note with my new tune-bot.
It works much better than torque keys or devices that measure head tension. It still takes me some time but now I can get my kit sounding great with the toms tuned to perfect fourths and even resonance.
Proper tuning will also lessen the need for dampening, like tape, o-rings or old laundry to make your kit sound great.
Highly recommended.
BTW: the first of the mounted tom is the video mic, the next hits are the recording of the tom mic.
Edit: I left out the setting I used for the resonant head, that was 229 Hz. That combination gives a fundamental note of 124 Hz (or a 2B note) with high resonance.
Edit: I took this video the 1st day I got the tune-bot for a friend who was curious how it functioned and later decided to make it public. I wasn't in a hurry and was still checking it out myself while I did this video. And I was also pretty bad at tuning drums.
6 months later and having tuned a lot of drums, tuning goes much faster. The more you use it, the less you need it as you are training your ears.
I don't use the tune-bot while I'm tuning anymore but just to check when I'm ready and do some fine-tuning.
