I made an exponential converter on a bit of breadboard to try and make this thing in tune. So far it's almost impossible, because changing any little thing on the tube circuit causes the pitch to change. I demonstrate this in the video.
The solution would be to nail everything down on a thick piece of aluminium, say 1mm, and mount it in a box where air can't get to it and change the component's values.
The non-linear output of the conversion circuit and the input of the linear VCO needs to be lined up or the notes won't be in tune relative to each other.
