When you want to measure shutter times beyond 1/1000 s "normal" phototransistors respond much too slow. For 1/4000 s (250 µs) or even 1/8000 s (125 µs) special fast types of phototransistors or photodiodes are required. Otherwhise the result of the measurement will be totally challenged just by a totally insufficient pickup of the shutter tester.
