Custom-made stereoscopic camera based on the Exakta Varex. It is built around the shutter mechanism I've shown in my video from the 15th of December:

Because of the coupled movement of both slits this shutter is totally synchronized even with 1/1000 of a second.
The special thing about this stereo camera is that the film transport doesn't work with the normal 10 perforation transport (American standard) but with 10 2/3 perforations. This allows real square pictures of 24 by 24mm instead of the disadvantageous upright format of 24 by 22,5mm. This transport results in 76mm frame distance and 75,2mm lens base. Because of the fact that the shutter of the Exakta can be cocked without transporting the film, it is also possible to vary the stereoscopic base by firing the camera twice with alternately covered lenses.
The rest of the Exakta Stereo doesn't differ from a normal Exakta. I only left away the long time mechanism und the two contacts for the old flash bulbs. So the camera hast two x-contact-sockets now. The camera also features two fully-fledged view finders, which of course don't offer a stereoscopic picture, because they are 75mm apart from each other. But no less there is the possibility to quickly switch between the prism finder and waist level finder without the need of changing them.
The assambled camera got quite heavy but suggests reliability and quality - in a way you would expect it from an Exakta ;-)
