Truck Rollover Spills 6,000 Gallons of Oil! This was by far one of my top spill jobs I've ever done. They don't happen often, but they also aren't rare. Usually it will be a load of some type of syrup or concentrate, but 6,000 gallons of used motor oil takes the cake. Normally when these flips, individual totes or crates inside the container or trailer will puncture, causing a sticky mess. In this case, the entire load was inside a single bag that ripped, causing this massive spill.
I already know when I get these jobs to expect tons of standby time. You can't just start running up to everything and rigging. The scene must be cleared first, then they have to contain the spill and make it "safe" for us to drive over. This part alone could easily take hours as seen in this video, since the priority is containment.
Once we finally are given the green light, we pulled up our trucks and did what we do best. Step 1 was to open the door to secure and stop the leak. After that we were able to upright everything, but had to set it back down so they can clean the walls with absorbent. So we technically did two rollovers and one un-rollover! After the final upright, Hector was able to use his wrecker to back up the damaged tractor to the chassis and haul everything away back to the yard.
