A night of torrential rain sent the Lanyang River in Yilan surging. One truck driver in his 60s found himself trapped right in the middle of it. The driver had been waiting inside his truck at a river dredging site when rapidly rising water suddenly surrounded the vehicle. He called for help, and firefighters had to wade into the rushing water, set up safety ropes and guide him out in a tense rescue. Thankfully, he escaped unhurt. The contractor said work had already been suspended because of the heavy rain, but the driver may not have noticed the warning.
