Heavy rains have battered Taiwan over the past few days, as a broad low-pressure system and strong southwesterly winds bring instability. Widespread flooding has been reported in Southern and Eastern Taiwan amid the constant heavy downpours. Good news is that the rainfall could gradually ease in the south on Monday night, as the tropical depression to the southwest of Taiwan moves away.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Saudel continues approaching Taiwan from the east. The Central Weather Administration says the typhoon will be closest to Taiwan on Thursday and Friday, delivering heavy rains to Northern Taiwan. There are another two active named storms in the Pacific. One of them is Tropical Storm Narra, which is near Vietnam and is not expected to have any impact on Taiwan. The other is Tropical Storm Atsani, which is unlikely to strengthen and could end up being absorbed by Typhoon Saudel.
