Trixie is right on target with her nutrition training! 🐡🎯
Before moving into the Giant Ocean Tank, Trixie spent time behind the scenes in Quincy learning to eat her meals near a bright target ring. Now, she uses that same training in the Giant Ocean Tank, making it easier for our staff to monitor her appetite, ensure she's getting all the right nutrients and vitamins, and provide any extra care she might need.
Ready for some fun porcupine fish facts?
🦀 Trixie loves to crunch on hard-shelled snacks using her super-strong dental plates. She gets a variety of tasty treats, but her top picks are shrimp, clams, and crab.
🎈 When they feel threatened, porcupine fish puff up by taking in water and raising their spines, turning themselves into a spiky balloon!
👀 Those big eyes help them see all around and also give porcupine fish their famously expressive faces.
