Some time in 2022, I decided to get myself a mechanical calculator; you know, one of those impulse e-bay buys. It does work well enough when you are after restoration items, those come cheap enough. This project has been going on, next to the others, since October 2022...
Anyhow, the CRN-1 here is an East German model from the mid 1950s; it features all the regular mechanical calculator features I am aware of and - in addition - the "R" button. It is "CRN-1" after all, not "CN-1". And yes, that is literally the difference between the two models.
This video is part one out of two, maybe even three, depending on how well the cleanup/fixup/assembly comes together in the next video. But the disassembly alone had way too many interesting parts to cut it down to just a few minutes, especially since... well... not everything went according to plan. You'll notice two bleeps this time.
The next video in the series will have the cleaning and fixing of parts, the final one - so either the next or the one thereafter - will have two quick computation examples too... if it comes together again *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*
