trinities.org/blog/podcast-195-dr-randal-rauser-on-whats-so-confusing-about-grace In Dr. Randal Rauser’s latest book What’s So Confusing About Grace?, he relates how as a boy, his understanding of Christian faith was simply becoming a friend of Jesus by inviting him into his heart. But as he grew up in evangelical churches, matters became more complicated. Surely, one must also boldly witness to unbelievers, and one must also avoid blaspheming the Holy Spirit. And surely, one must avoid all secular music. Surely, a clear, standard list of things is to believed, while many others must not be believed.
Surely? As Dr. Rauser grew, so did his understanding of the Bible, and his understanding of God’s grace. He became more careful in what he was sure about.
In this interview we discuss growing up evangelical, legalism, protest atheism, and our avoidance of difficult, violent biblical texts, resulting in a “Disneyfied Bible.” Also, we discuss whether there is a bare minimum of belief that all people must have to be saved, and whether or not this includes belief in the Trinity.
