In November 2000, we made our annual Thanksgiving trip to the Welland Canal for railfanning and boatwatching, staying at the Inn at Lock Seven with a view of both the canal and the railway. This video is a compilation of several days worth of activty on the Trillium Railway. At that time, the 108 was stationed at Merritton and the 110 at Port Colborne. 108 handled all the switching in St. Catharines and Thorold, then climbed the hill along the flight locks to the Fonthill Spur behind the Beer Store. 110 handled Port Colborne, then made a daily run to Feeder yard where cars were interchanged with the CN and CP. It then ran north along the canal to Thorold to meet the 108 and swapped cars with the Merritton crew. Each crew then returned to finish switching their respective territories. Unfortunately, by 2000 service had ended on the Pine St. Lead, but all other lines in the Thorold/St Catharines area are covered. Watch for the over and under shot at Merritton.
