Tributes have been paid to George Major, the Pearly King of Peckham, London and a real-life inspiration for Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses, who has died aged 88. George was crowned Pearly King at just 20 and spent more than 65 years preserving Cockney traditions, later opening a museum dedicated to the culture. He was reportedly followed by Only Fools and Horses writer John Sullivan while working as a market trader, with some of his real-life exploits believed to have inspired storylines. George died on August 1 surrounded by three generations of his family, with relatives saying his legacy would never be forgotten.
