Residents from Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, UK, are celebrating after Google agreed to drop the hyphens from the town’s name following a campaign that has lasted more than a century.
Locals say the dashes first appeared in 1899 when Great Western Railway added them to station signs, despite the town historically being known as Bradford on Avon.
Campaigners recently urged major organisations to adopt the original spelling, and Google has now confirmed it will remove the hyphens from its services.
However, GWR says the station name will remain unchanged for now.
