A trial date is now in question in the death of Rolin Hill.
Former Virginia Beach sheriff’s deputy Eric Baptiste is one of three former deputies charged with second-degree murder in connection with Hill’s death. His trial is currently set to begin September 28.
During a pretrial motions hearing, Baptiste’s defense said it still needs time to review a large amount of evidence, including nearly 500 medical and psychological records and more than 150 videos.
The judge left the September 28 trial date in place for now, but scheduled another hearing for September 24 to determine whether the case can move forward as planned or needs to be delayed.
Hill suffered a medical emergency after deputies restrained him at the Virginia Beach jail and later died at a hospital. A medical examiner ruled his cause of death was asphyxia.
Baptiste, Michael Kidd and Kevin Wilson all face second-degree murder charges in connection with Hill’s death.
