The Mayor’s Task Force for a Safer Virginia Beach is discussing ways to curb gun violence and improve public safety in the city.
The task force, created by Mayor Bobby Dyer following several shootings in the resort area, reviewed community listening sessions and the results of a recent citywide survey.
More than 400 people responded to the survey. While most said they feel safe in Virginia Beach overall, more than 250 said they feel unsafe specifically at the Oceanfront.
The group also discussed potential youth programming, event permits and other ideas aimed at making Virginia Beach safer.
