In this video, I show off and explain a glitch called Shine Cancellation preformed in Noki Bay.
CAUSE:
When collecting a Shine Sprite, Mario gets set into a unique free-falling state for collecting Shine Sprite, beginning by clipping Mario just a few pixels lower than his initial height while obtaining the Shine Sprite. Once he reaches a solid ground, the SHINE GET! animation will play and the game goes to the saving screen. This means if Mario collects a Shine Sprite while standing on somewhat steep elevations, those few pixels of de-elevation will clip Mario slightly lower than the terrains surface, thus causing Mario to clip underneath the terrain he was standing on whilst collecting the Shine Sprite.
Under most circumstances, Mario would likely clip underneath the map and fall on Out of Bounds (OoB) collision and die, fall into OoB void collision and die, or simply clip into an object and land on terrain, all of which continue the game properly. However, in this case there is water underneath the Noki Bay terrain which causes Marios active state to change to swimming rather than the Shine Sprite free-falling state. This causes the SHINE GET! animation to completely cancel and the Shine Sprite also becomes permanently unobtainable due to it changing to a collected state upon collision with Mario, meaning it cannot be collected a second time unless Mario rejoins the stage.

I accidentally discovered this glitch whilst messing around in Pianta Village with Yoshi. This glitch can be performed with any color Yoshi on an Pokey as long as the Pokey has not emerged from the ground before. Enjoy!")
