The 1939 Gibson Super 400 archtop in a beautifully aged natural finish, owned and played by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. This well-preserved, well-played instrument comes directly from his daughter, Trixie Garcia.
Beyond the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia played with the Jerry Garcia Band and Old & In the Way and collaborated often with David Grisman, using this Super 400N on sessions including Not for Kids Only and “Blue Yodel No. 9” from Been All Around This World, his final album session in 1995. Frequently photographed in his hands, the guitar also appears in the video for “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” from Smoke.
Featuring more than 300 lots, "Treasures from the Golden Road" spans stage-played instruments, road-worn gear, backstage passes, handwritten setlists and lyrics, Jerry Garcia’s original artwork and rehearsal materials, iconic works by Alton Kelley, George Mead, Stanley Mouse, and Herb Greene, as well as correspondence, fan gifts, vintage t-shirts, and more.
