From Roman: I am London based documentary photographer. I was born in Lithuania, but because of the financial instability in the country as many other people in that region my family left abroad. Last year I have graduated from photography course at Bournemouth (UK) and now I am trying to establish my self as an artist in this very competitive industry. A lot of you probably know that its not an easy thing to do, so for that reason I am asking all of you for some help to bring my personal project to live. Last year I came back to Lithuania and came across that the country has dramatically changed over the past 9 years. For that reason I have started working on the project - visual analysis about cultural and political situation of the country.
Some work from this project has been exhibited this summer in London (Magnum Photos Print Room) and Copenhagen Photo Festival. Now I am working hard to show it to a wider range of audience through galleries and by producing a book in the future and I believe that with your help it can happen.
The central focus of this project examines how the Soviet generation is passing away as a new European citizen comes to the fore and how their decisions and actions are reflected not just in society, but also in the physical landscape. In terms of a final outcome, this project is attempts to reveal how the culture of the Baltic States is changing under the aspirational influence of bigger and wealthier countries.
