Photoville (http://www.photovillenyc.org) is a new Brooklyn-based photo destination - a veritable village of freight containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces, taking place this summer from June 22 to July 1, 2012. Photoville is raising funds; in order to receive contributions, the project must be funded in full by 6/10/2012. To help: kickstarter.com/projects/upi/photoville-in-brooklyn-bridge-park-this-summer
To paraphrase the old adage, "it takes a photo community to build a photo village". And like an any village, Photoville is about community-building and the ties that bind us together through shared experiences. With your support, we can make this a truly free event for everyone to visit, explore, and participate!
Photoville is happening no matter what. Our exhibitions are locked in and the line up is simply amazing (check out the updates page), but your Kickstarter participation will be helping create attractions that will make Photoville the gem of Brooklyn this summer. 10,000 dollars will help design and produce a full color catalogue detailing all of our exhibitions, workshops & talks, and partners -- distributed for FREE!
10,000 dollars will cover the costs of creating "The Greenhouse" a new public art photographic installation by Brazillian artist Andre Feliciano.
5,000 dollars will procure all the materials needed for our truly one-of-a-kind Photoville Dog Run (complete with walk-in Camera Obscura!!).
The final 5,000 dollars will help subsidize the costs for building the dedicated spaces devoted to our FREE lecture series, FREE workshops, and FREE nighttime events.
Any funds raised beyond our 30,000 goal will go towards supporting our rapidly developing public art initiative (formal announcement coming soon), offering local New York City artists the opportunity to exhibit in unconventional ways and spaces throughout Brooklyn.
Occupying more than 60,000 sq. feet in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park, Photoville will be located on the uplands of Pier 3, along the Brooklyn Waterfront between DUMBO and Atlantic Avenue.
About UNITED PHOTO INDUSTRIES: A Brooklyn-born, art-presenting cooperative dedicated to identifying, harnessing, and occasionally conjuring unexpected exhibition opportunities. All in the name of fostering conversation, championing new directions in photography, and cultivating ties within an ever-expanding, globe-trotting community of photographers.
Our mission at United Photo Industries is to promote and showcase emerging photographers through curated exhibitions both locally in DUMBO, Brooklyn and around the world.
Working in partnership with local galleries and key media partners, we concentrate on producing exhibitions that explore new thematic directions in photography, either as site-specific projects or in our Gallery Headquarters in DUMBO.
Drawing upon our international network of curatorial partners, we are able to provide unique exhibition opportunities for emerging photographers and facilitate their entry into art markets both locally and globally.
