The new height map ground textures and PBR height map shaders are able to intersect with other height maps and geometry. This video provides a demonstration of how a height-mapped terrain texture intersects with a flat plane such as water. There are two obvious benefits here: that individual mud mounds poke through the water surface, and that the overall border between the water and the ground is no longer a hard edge but is much more natural.
