I've been working on Train DLTK Fast Animation and I found this technique to break all but 3 or 4 locks (out of 20) before Trevelyan starts the countdown. The countdown starts when Trev says "That's close enough"; his previous line ("James, what an unpleasant surprise") is irrelevant, which I didn't realize when I beat Train DLTK in 2011. Press against the right door frame and creep forward until you can see the right side of the closest window. Go a little past that, but not so far that you see the right edge of the bar above the window. If you go too far, you can back up and try again. I suppose you could use the diamond pattern on the wall as another indicator of how far forward to move. Once you've gone far enough, turn very slowly to the left, making sure not to move forward. From here, you can use the watch laser to break 16 or 17 locks without needing to crouch. I think the most I've seen anyone break in a Train DLTK run is 15. There are a couple advantages to breaking more locks before the countdown starts. First, because the countdown hasn't started, you can take your time and shoot the locks slowly so that you don't waste ammo. Second, because there are fewer locks remaining when the countdown starts, you can break them and get outside the train quickly. This gives you more time to kill the guards and Ourumov, which can help you conserve ammo.
I show how to break 16 locks, then how to break 17. Breaking 17 is pretty dangerous because you need to really push the limit of how far forward you can go without triggering the countdown. Turning to the side can cause you to move, even if you use 1.2 to try to avoid accidental movement. One thing that can happen if you turn to the left while you're too far forward is that you'll enter the room, then quickly exit, which causes Ourumov to shoot Natalya. She doesn't die from being shot on DLTK, but she won't complete her hacking.
