Trail Ridge Mountain Index in Rocky Mountain National Park

In Rocky Mountain National Park, just a half-mile off of Trail Ridge Road is a navigational tool and monument to the first Superintendent of Rocky Mountain National Park. Most people that take the Tundra Communities Trail at the Rock Cut pullout have no idea it is even there. Kay found out about it almost a year before we went looking for it. It was the first thing on the list that Kay wanted to do in Rocky Mountain National Park this year. If you know our love of maps, you will understand why Kay had to find this.
This brass disk is a map to all of the named mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park AND the distances to 12 other national parks in the United States. Isn't that COOL?!? The trail to get to the monument is a fairly easy one, but getting to the monument itself is a bit harder. There is certainly some rock scrambling at the end.
