Toy Story 5 review — Pixar has done it again. As the biggest Toy Story fan you have ever met, I can honestly say Toy Story 5 is another Toy Story masterpiece.
In this non-spoiler review, I’m sharing my thoughts on Toy Story 5, the newest chapter in Disney and Pixar’s legendary franchise. Directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, and produced by Lindsey Collins, the film brings back Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the toys for a new story where “Toy meets Tech.”
And somehow, this franchise still has magic.
For me, Toy Story has never just been about toys. It has always been about life. Growing up. Being loved. Being forgotten. Letting go. Finding purpose. Moving forward. Every single movie in this franchise has found a way to speak to a different chapter of life, and Toy Story 5 continues that tradition in a beautiful way.
The big question going into this movie was obvious: did Toy Story need another sequel?
After the perfect emotional ending of Toy Story 3 and the misunderstood but beautiful purpose-driven ending of Toy Story 4, I completely understand why people were nervous. But Toy Story 5 proves there is still meaningful story left to tell. This movie does not feel like Pixar forcing the franchise to continue. It feels like a natural evolution of what childhood, play, imagination, and purpose look like in a world where technology has changed everything.
The “Toy meets Tech” idea works because it is not just a gimmick. It taps directly into what Toy Story has always been about: what happens when the world changes around you, and you have to figure out where you belong? This time, the toys are not just facing a new kid, a new home, or a new owner. They are facing a world where childhood itself looks different.
That is what makes Toy Story 5 hit so hard.
Woody, Buzz, and Jessie all still matter. The heart is still there. The humor is still there. The adventure is still there. The emotional gut punch is still there. And as someone who has grown up with this franchise, lived with these characters, and connected different Toy Story movies to different phases of my own life, this one felt personal.
This is another beautiful chapter in the greatest animated franchise of all time. It balances nostalgia with a modern story, brings back the emotion Pixar does best, and reminds us why these characters have stayed with us for nearly three decades.
