HSiFS Hell is done! Day 5! Not live though. I didn't do any streams today, and I wasn't planning to. I had some exams coming up next week I wanted to prepare for, so I was only really planning on doing a few off-stream attempts before the studying began. And then this victory came, after 3 scorched earth failures and 2 snowman failures! Apparently the lucky number of Okina is 6, not 7!
I may have been a bit harsh on this game at times. And honestly, I was pretty hasty overall on my streams. Regarding this "HSiFS Hell" as just something I wanted to get over with ASAP and move on.
But I don't hate this game. I like it more than LoLK. HSiFS is quite fun and enjoyable, I think. It's difficulty is really just SA's difficulty. Easy game leading up to the stage 4 boss (tbh the stage 4 spam isn't that hard with ReimuWinter if you know which enemies to kill. It should be about 90% consistent once you've learned it). Stage 4 boss has a few hard things. Stage 5 has a few hard things. Stage 6 has a few hard things. Etc.
This game really felt like a bunch of little checkpoints. Will I capture Narumi's final? Will I capture Behind Festival and Tengu Frenzy? Will I be able to cap Scorched Earth and Snowman? Unlike games like EoSD where the difficulty is far more varied than a few specific points, this game really does kinda feel like a bunch of little "run-ending spots" with a lot of breathers mixed in. I actually would go as far as to say that SA and IN FinalB were still harder than this game. If only because while Okina is tougher than Utsuho, it was really hard to reach stage 6 in SA. Whereas in HSiFS, I was almost guaranteed at least one Okina attempt a day. I can't think of many other games in which making it to the final boss was so frequent! IN I suppose, but even then, IN always runs the risk of failing all the various last spells everywhere. In SA, I hardly ever got past Cat Walk and if I did, I'd always die somewhere stupid like popcorn or Orin's first or Ghost Wheels. Being able to reach the final boss a lot is a goldmine for LNNN grinding so that definitely makes HSiFS more approachable. Also, in reality, Okina really is just "two attacks". Other than scorch and snowman, there really isn't anything else in the fight that's scary. Final non can be done like I did. Stream right to left, then vice versa on the next wave. Extreme Winter can be scary, but no one's failed it so far in their LNNN attempts that I've seen so far.
So this just leaves the "deadly three", eh? I've longed dreamed of reaching the point where I'd only have the last three mighty games left in my LNNN journey. And we've reached it! UFO is the obvious next target. I have a 1-miss in that game! Idk whether I'll do EoSD or LoLK first. It's hard to say. Both games are insanity.
About the run itself:
Nothing notable really happened in stages 1-4. I went with the safepsot on Narumi first even though before I was raw dodging at the bottom. I felt a little more confidence in myself with the safespot and I reaaaallly didn't wanna risk getting a bad wave at the bottom.
Ohhh boy... Stage 5. The stage itself was uneventful. Everything went as planned, until BEHIND FESTIVAL. Jesus christ, that was the most intense dodging I've ever done in this game. You see, Mai did this thing where she started spawning stars a lot to the right. Usually on this spell, you'd make a dash to the right and then restream. Well, I felt it was risky to go right (looking back it wasn't as dangerous as i perceived, but still). I realized my only hope was to go left. Yes, all the way over to where Satono is. After I did that desperate leftwards dash and restreamed, I realized that Mai still had a considerable amount of HP left. My only choice at this point was to restream yet again, so I did that. I did my restream right. But then I realized with horror that Mai wasn't going to die if I stayed under her for the rest of the spell. I was forced to do a THIRD RESTREAM. The only place to go was left. I couldn't go back right. So I embarked on a epic westward journey full of close calls and "you really should have died" moments. Finally, I made it back to Mai, and finished her off. Seriously, that was nuts.
Okina was easy on every hard thing she had. Scorched Earth let me kill it in one wave. Snowman only gave me a few light walls but I micro'd pretty safely. I had a bit of a close call on spring spell but it worked out fine. Fortunately, Extreme Winter was really nice to me and gave me no risky situations except a weird dodge at the end.
It's over. HSiFS is over. I will still LP this game sometime but... I can now relax, enjoy my victory, and embark on a quest for the Undefined.
