The August 12, 2026 Total Solar Eclipse is HERE, and it is the first total solar eclipse to cross Europe since August 11, 1999.
For Reykjavik, this is the first totality since 1433. For mainland Spain, the first in over a century. Join us LIVE as daylight drains away, the solar corona appears, and the Moon's shadow races from the Arctic down to the Mediterranean.

THE PATH OF TOTALITY
The shadow does something unusual this time. It begins at sunrise over the Taymyr Peninsula in Arctic Russia, climbs over the top of the planet to within about 246 km of the North Pole, then drops down across eastern Greenland, western Iceland, the North Atlantic, and finally northern and eastern Spain, clipping a small corner of Portugal and exiting near the Balearic Islands.
Maximum totality is 2 minutes and 18 seconds out over the Atlantic, where the path is about 294 km wide. Most populated locations along the path get under two minutes. This is a short, sharp eclipse, which is exactly why we are covering it live from multiple positions at once.

WHY WE ARE RUNNING MULTIPLE FEEDS
The two best land targets pull in opposite directions. Iceland gets the higher Sun, around 25 degrees above the horizon, but August in Reykjavik brings roughly a three-in-four chance of cloud. Northern Spain flips the odds: far better odds of clear skies, but totality arrives with the Sun only about 3 to 10 degrees above the west-northwest horizon, sinking lower toward the Balearics. A sunset totality over the Iberian landscape looks nothing like 2024.
We will switch between locations as conditions change, so if one site clouds out, we keep you on the eclipse.
SOLAR ECLIPSE SAFETY - READ THIS
Never look at the Sun without ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses or a properly filtered telescope, camera or solar viewer. Sunglasses are never enough.
There is exactly one exception: if you are physically inside the narrow path of totality, during the brief minutes when the Moon completely covers the Sun. The instant the first sliver of Sun reappears, the glasses go back on.
Everywhere outside the path, including all of North America, protection is required for the entire event, no exceptions.
