This week I'm back in south Florida trying to put together a little wild hog catch and cook with the osage selfbow. Whether you know them as wild hogs, feral hogs, wild boar or just plain pigs, they're widespread throughout the southeastern US, and a major nuisance for farmers and land managers. But as destructive as they are, traditional bowhunting wild hogs is about as much fun as you can have outside the normal hunting seasons. On this catch and cook, my friend Scott and I spot and stalk hogs in the palm hammocks and prairies of South Florida. I find myself a little too close for comfort as a boar approaches in dense cover, and we try pit cooking a young hog I was able to shoot with my osage selfbow. Primitive bowhunting doesn't get much better! If you hunt with a longbow or recurve bow and have never been hog hunting, you're missing out.
