Hi Youtubers, I got this one a couple of months back and I was undecided whether I was going to open this train and run it because it really is a collectors item, but as you will see temptation always wins with me lol. I know there are other youtubers with videos of this train but this particular one is MINE hehe.
This C53-43 train was released by Plarail in 1999 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Plarail, it is the only tinplate mdel they ever did and it is rather special, it comes with its own special dome type coach which is also tinplate. The detailing on the metal surface is limited to paint type detailing which is understandable, the couplings are all black which i feel is a nice touch and adds to the special feel, it is quite a weird shape at the front but looks fairly accurate to the real life engine (I am just spoiled with so many beautiful steamliners in western countries.) But this is still a great looking engine and the only plarail streamline steam loco apart from the original 1961 battery plarail loco.
It runs on a C size battery in a sliding battery compartment door underneath and the whole front wheel section lifts off from underneath. It did not want to start but it has been sitting in its packet for 13 years so that is understandable, but after that it started running like a champion. I ran it with 3 coaches one of which was the tinplate coach and it ran flawlessly over the most tricky sections through the turntable and through the double track points at the big station. It ran well with mr.motorman but it was not as smooth as what i had hoped if we use an engine like Henry for example he responds very well to speed changes and is smooth in neutral to stopping.
But I am well pleased with this locomotive and if you can find it for a reasonable price then go for it as they are getting pretty rare. I have of course packed it back into its box now as i don't want anything to happen to it but onwards to my next video!! which will be a Thomas and friends character :D
