When I saw on Tom Misch's Instagram that he was set to release a collaboration with Michael Kiwanuka, it gave me yet another reason to look forward to Friday. And then on Tuesday while walking home from some tasty Chinese food, Tom's Instagram showed cover art for the track stating that: "Money" is out now!!".
Strolling home with my wifey we pressed play and out came our inner walking struts. Keek's being a sexy little wiggle, mine something that you might see out of Zoolander, complete with a white man overbite and a boatload of tool-baggery. The convergence of these two artists - Kiwanuka, one of my gaves from a few years ago, Misch, a present day beloved - collided in the best of ways.
These two throwbacks share their love for the soul and both come from English descent, and yet I still wouldn't have pegged them for a collab. I never envisioned the overlap with Kiwanuka has staying mainly in his folk rock lane while Misch has been helping define today's nu jazz sound. And yet the sound they created is a a perfect concoction of the two which is atypical when two sonicspheres converge.
And the song name, "Money" - that shit makes the whole damn world go round.
