Tokens in Yu-Gi-Oh! have several unique limitations. They can only exist face-up on the field, and they can’t be sent to the GY, returned to the hand or Deck, or remain in the banished zone. But as long as an effect only requires a face-up monster on the field, tokens can usually be used.
