The Justice Department is appealing a major Epstein files ruling while simultaneously telling the court it is unclear whether the ruling can even be appealed. Judge Emmet Sullivan found that the Attorney General failed to substantively answer multiple allegations that DOJ violated the Epstein Files Transparency Act, including questions surrounding withheld records, missing redaction logs, and FBI interview notes containing an unproven allegation involving Donald Trump. Congress overwhelmingly ordered these records released, yet an independent journalist is now doing what much larger news organizations have not: forcing the government to explain in court why documents remain hidden.
