The Supreme Court has cleared the way for key parts of Trump’s mail-voting executive order to move forward while legal challenges continue, putting election officials under enormous pressure just weeks before ballots go out. The order directs federal agencies to play new roles in voter eligibility and mail-ballot delivery, even after lower courts found that Trump exceeded presidential authority. With states already preparing for November and conflicting court orders still in play, the biggest danger may be the confusion created around which ballots count, who receives them, and what happens when the results are close.
