Tobermory Walk – Colourful Harbour & Lighthouse Views
A scenic wander through Tobermory, the colourful harbour town on the Isle of Mull, finishing with a peaceful walk out toward the lighthouse. With its brightly painted waterfront, sheltered bay, wooded paths, and sweeping sea views, Tobermory feels both cheerful and quietly remote — a place where island life, maritime history, and wild Scottish scenery all meet at the water’s edge.
🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore
Tobermory is one of Scotland’s most recognisable coastal towns, famous for the row of vividly coloured buildings that curve around the harbour. Founded in the late 18th century as a planned fishing settlement, it grew around the sheltered waters of Tobermory Bay, which provided a safe haven for boats travelling through the Inner Hebrides. Today, fishing vessels, yachts, and small ferries still give the harbour a gentle sense of movement.
The town’s name comes from the Gaelic Tobar Mhoire, meaning “Mary’s Well,” linked to an old holy well in the area. Like many island settlements, Tobermory carries layers of folklore and seafaring legend. One of its most famous tales is that of a Spanish Armada ship said to have sunk in the bay in 1588, leaving behind rumours of hidden treasure beneath the water.
Beyond the harbour, the walk becomes quieter as it follows the coast through woodland and along the shoreline. The colours of the town slowly fall behind, replaced by trees, sea air, and open views across the Sound of Mull. The path to Rubha nan Gall Lighthouse offers a softer, more reflective side of Tobermory — less postcard, more peaceful island edge.
The lighthouse itself stands watch over the water, guiding vessels through these narrow sea routes as it has done since the 19th century. Finishing here gives the walk a lovely sense of arrival: harbour bustle behind, open sea ahead, and the quiet rhythm of Mull all around.

I use DaVinci Resolve Studio 20 for basic colour correction, mainly to tone down overexposed skies. The videos go straight from camera to YouTube—no cuts, no talking, no fancy business. Just walking.
