Prince of Lanling, who's name was Gao Changgong/Gao Su, was a prince and general of the Northern Qi dynasty. According to ancient texts, the Prince of Lanling always wore a mask of a fearsome ghost, as his face was too handsome and not manly enough for a general. Despite being one of the most brilliant military leaders of the Qi, he was forced to take his own life due to the infighting in the Imperial court.
Edit: This is a rebel leader in Northern China larping as the prince, not some supernatural event like Roman Legions spawning in Turkey.
