Impulse is defined as the integral of the net force exerted on an object or system over a time interval. The impulse-momentum theorem relates the impulse delivered to an object and the object’s change in momentum. If the force on an object is constant over an interval, the impulse delivered during that interval is simply the product of the constant force and the amount of time it acts. But if a force varies with time, the force as a function of time must be integrated with respect to time to find the impulse.
