During my six year Youtube experience I learned a lot about myself. I improved my craft for music and video production, it teached me discipline and structure and created many business opportunities. But probably what is the most important, it made me realize that my authentic self expression through art is valuable for so many people, every single day.
As everything in life, some things need to end for the new ones to begin. The decision to move significantly from Youtube to Patreon was a tough one, since my dream from the beginning was to grow a big Youtube channel which will sustain my life, making art and business. As much as it gives me a stable source of passive income and many business opportunities, making videos every week on this platform, it‘s just not sustainable anymore.
I recently realized, that creating the best music and videos possible is the most important thing I have to do, and I can‘t sacrifice it for the sake of keeping up with the weekly uploading pace. Regular content creation on Youtube (video every 1-3 weeks) has many benefits but in a long run is just exhausting creatively and financially. Not many youtubers will tell you that. There is much more nuance in this process that very few people discuss openly and the whole "efficiency" pushed by Youtube algorithms is probably not to serve artists and creators in a long run.
Don‘t get me wrong, it‘s a fantastic platform in many ways. I wouldn‘t be where I am if not Youtube. At the same time I needed 6 years to understand that it‘s not build to help creators have a sustainable income. It serves mostly audience and advertisers. That‘s the whole business in a nutshell.
This video is probably the first time I sat down and talk what comes to my mind for 37 min. No cuts, edits and bullet points to keep you entertained or informed.
