Timbuktu, once a legendary city of gold and wonder, became the stage for a harsh reality when it fell under jihadist control in 2012. As Tuareg separatists declared the state of Azawad, ancient heritage was destroyed and strict rule imposed, until French forces intervened months later. Through intimate portraits of its residents, the film explores the deep fractures of identity in a city where survival often meant compromise, revealing a place still haunted by conflict and caught between past dreams and present uncertainty.
