One of those great warhorse tunes... literally! Written in 1918 during WW1, this is one of those great songs that almost didn't make it.
Composed by Richard Whiting while he was working for Remick and Co., it was written for entry into a wartime songwriting contest, under the title "Auf Wiedersehen." Dissatisfied with it, he threw it in the trash and went home. After he was gone, his secretary noticed it and retrieved it from the trash. She played a through it on the piano, then passed it on to Remick, who also liked it. He asked her what "Auf Wiedersehen" meant, and she responded 'Till We Meet Again.' Remick then changed the title and entered it in the contest without telling Whiting.
