lovely listeners...a forewarning that this is brutally honest. this song was written about my battle with body dysmorphic disorder. for those of you who haven’t heard of bdd, it is a mental illness that creates an obsessive focus on perceived flaws in appearance. i wish i could truly depict in words what it feels like. it’s a far cry from vanity. it’s extremely painful & limiting. it’s wanting to share yourself with others but feeling imprisoned by the thoughts that you couldn’t possibly be lovable looking the way you do. it’s staring endlessly at minute details of your body that no one would ever notice but that you feel destroys your ability to be worthy. it’s painfully overthinking every single aspect of how you’ll present yourself to the world. it’s being horrified when looking in the mirror or seeing a photo of yourself & spiraling into the darkness of feeling trapped in your own skin with no way out. it’s keeping all of these feelings hidden because they’re often met with misunderstanding or judgment when expressed. i know how isolating it can feel to suffer with bdd. if even one person feels less alone after reading what i shared, or if one person gains a little more understanding about the realities of body dysmorphia, it was worth doing so. i wrote these lyrics to depict the pain, but also to depict the hope that resides within us when we stand up for ourselves…even when our inner-demons want to win. i hope you know that you’re lovable & worthy exactly as you are. sending you lots of unconditional love. xo, r.

lovely listeners...this song is a metaphorical view of the wish to escape social anxiety, which can be painfully paralyzing. the lyrics relate it to the feeling of being weighted down because our insecurities hold us back from being able to embrace who we truly are. “falling into the horizon” represents the weights of our insecurities being lifted; it’s a moment that lights our souls alive, reminding us that our authentic selves are timeless. they have always been within us, but are often masked by our fears & our desire to be accepted. if you struggle with social anxiety, please remember that you aren’t alone. i know it can be feel unbearable, but i hope you’ll keep fighting. you deserve to be completely loved for being nothing other than yourself. xo, r.
