2023 has been a record breaking rainfall year for the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Nearly all its major dams frequently filled op to more than 100%, and then overflowed spectacularly! In this video I tried to capture this splendor using drone footage. The dams captured were the Clanwilliam Dam which had two sluice gates open but water tumbling over all 13 sluices on 27 August 2023. Next was the massive Theewaterkloof Dam, also at 103% on 1 September 2023. Finally, the Berg River Dam overflowed after 299mm rain fell in nearby Franschoek, causing huge damage on 24 September - this footage was taken 4 days after by which time the dam was still more than 100% full. This caused the Berg River to burst its banks downstream, as can be seen from this footage, taken the day after the storm at Wellington.
