Aline Spears is a musical prodigy, a young child with immense natural gifts. If this were any other story Aline may have gone to post-secondary school in New York to develop her talent, but Aline happens to be Cree and growing up in rural Manitoba. Poet, Activist and filmmaker Marie Clements movie BONES OF CROWS follows the trajectory of Aline Spears, chronicling her time as a little girl torn from her family and placed in a residential school to her becoming a matriarch and pillar of strength for generations of oppressed indigenous peoples.
The Stardale Women’s group in Calgary is presenting BONES OF CROWS at the Grace Presbyterian Church as part of their NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILATION activities. One of the stars of the film, renowned actor Gerald Auger, is doing a Q & A with George Canyon following the screening Saturday night, but before that he drops in to chat with Tony King about how his personal experience translates into the “bones” of the movie. Auger’s journey saw him transform from Hollywood icon to spiritual mentor for others. Their illuminating talk will aired on Thoroughfare.
