Thorlabs' Mobile Photonics Lab visited Duke University, and Photonics Learning Specialist Celeste Carbonell met with Elisa Torres Durney, founder of Girls in Quantum and engineering student. We couldn't help but note the similarities: Thorlabs and Girls in Quantum are both dedicated to creating and expanding opportunities for women around the world in a historically male-dominated field. Girls in Quantum empowers students everywhere with free resources to explore the future of quantum science and technology. Thorlabs sponsors several chapters of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), and conducts elementary school outreach programs working with Girls Who Code.
