Chilla’s Art has become one of the most distinctive voices in indie horror. The studio is run by two brothers who remain out of the spotlight, and that anonymity only adds to the strange aura surrounding their work. Their games don’t rely on cheap shocks or constant action. They take quiet, familiar places and slowly drain them of comfort until you’re left unsettled.
The way they achieve that mood is through small details. Their games often use VHS-inspired visuals, long silences, and minimal UI so you feel like you’ve wandered into a real place. Stories draw on Japanese folklore and urban legends, letting myths bleed into the modern day. Because of that, the horror rarely feels like it comes from nowhere. It builds, inch by inch, until you realize you’ve been trapped in it the whole time.
When I came across Cursed Digicam on Steam, I didn’t know any of this. I hadn’t touched their other titles. I bought it on a whim and loaded it up during a stream. The setup is deceptively simple: you’re holding an old point-and-shoot digital camera and exploring a park. At first you’re just taking photos, but every picture feels off. A shadow where there shouldn’t be one, a figure that disappears the second you lower the camera. Half the time you’re unsure whether it was the game or your own eyes tricking you. That constant doubt is what made it terrifying. So let’s get into it. This is “Cursed Digicam”...
