I tested the UPerfect UPower X3 USB4 hub with a portable monitor setup to see whether it could deliver the dream: multiple displays, one compact hub, and a clean desk setup.

The answer is: mostly yes, but not quite in the way I expected.
In this video I test the hub with several UPerfect portable monitors, look at the limits around USB-C power and display output, compare the experience with what you might expect from a full Thunderbolt dock, and try to work out whether this kind of hub makes sense for a portable workstation.
It can run multiple monitors. It can be genuinely useful. But it also reminded me why USB-C is still far more confusing than it should be.
